Accessibility

People who arrive here are often tired, anxious, or in pain. A site that is hard to use is a barrier to care, so accessibility was a design requirement rather than a final check.

What this site aims for

WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and Level AAA for text contrast. Body text sits at roughly 13:1 against its background, comfortably beyond the 7:1 the strictest level asks for.

What that means in practice

• Everything works with a keyboard alone, and the focus indicator is always visible.
• Every page works at 200% zoom and at 320px wide with no sideways scrolling.
• Nothing animates on page load or while you scroll. Nothing flashes.
• Motion respects your system's reduced-motion setting, and there is a Reduce motion toggle in the footer in case you don't have that setting turned on.
• A dark mode toggle sits next to it. The site opens in light mode.
• Colour is never the only way meaning is carried.
• Text can be resized and re-spaced without content being cut off.
• Tap targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels; the main buttons are larger.
• No pop-ups, no interstitials, no auto-playing audio or video.
• The crisis link stays in the header at every screen size, so you never have to open a menu to find help.

Known limits

• The logo is currently a raster image rather than a vector. It stays crisp at the sizes used here, and a mono version is substituted in Windows High Contrast mode.
• Amanda's photograph is a modest size because only one photograph exists and enlarging it would make it blurry.
